Former chief regulator and acting head of US monetary oversight Brian Brooks has been appointed CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Binance.us. Brooks will be the first. May as head of the Exchange, replacing the current head, Catherine Cowley.

Binance has hired someone with ties to Washington, D.C., as the U.S. trading platform Binance.us will be run by Brian Brooks. According to the Wall Street Journal, Alexander Osipovich, former acting director of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), will join the exchange later this month.

The appointment follows the recent appointment of U.S. Senator Max Baucus, who served Montana from 1978 to 2014.

Brian Brooks was known as a crypto enthusiast and in November 2020, Brooks discussed China’s dominance in the bitcoin industry. As a country, we now face the geostrategic challenge of competitiveness: Does the US want to adopt Internet 2.0 as we did with Internet 1.0? Brooks said at the time.

This is not Brooks’ first time working for a cryptocurrency company, as he served as a general counsel at a San Francisco-based coin exchange.

Some time ago, Brooks was also called the Crypto-Controller on social media and forums, and then-President Joe Biden chose Blake Paulson to lead the OCC. The former OCC executive took part in an interview this week and also revealed that he will begin his new role at Binance on the 1st. May 2021.

In addition to being called a crypto-counter, Brooks has previously said that creating a digital U.S. dollar would be a terrible idea. Despite this view, it seems that the Federal Reserve is at an advanced stage of creating prototypes of digital cryptocurrencies.

During this particular interview, Brooks also said that other countries have a strategic advantage when it comes to digital currencies and stables. That’s something the U.S. government hasn’t figured out yet, Brooks said last October.
