Early last week, Norway’s Finance Minister Siv Jensen claimed that cryptocurrency could become a big deal in the country, even more important than the oil industry. One of the main reasons he saw it as the next big thing was because of how it could be used to make payments. “If you look into the future, I think cryptocurrency will have a breakthrough,” she said. “It will probably become an important payment method in the future.” However, if the bitcoin and altcoin markets continue to struggle, this could be another one of those times.

Speaking to an audience in the US, Jensen said that she believes the technology has great potential. “I’m very open to cryptocurrencies and how they work. I think Bitcoin could see breakthroughs. Bitcoin may break through, says Norwegian finance minister
Norway’s finance minister Jan Tore Sanner suggested in an interview last week that cryptocurrencies will eventually overcome the volatility they are now known for and go through a breakout period, Bloomberg reports. He is quoted: Of course, there may be an evolution over time where there are more stabilization mechanisms in currencies that can lead to larger breaks and shocks over a slightly longer time frame. However, he noted that cryptocurrencies are not a market he would recommend to consumers at this time. The finance minister added that he does not think crypto assets will become mainstream until they are properly regulated and mentioned that crypto assets are also popular with criminals. However, Sanner said that people should be free to decide whether to invest in bitcoin, but he stressed that the cryptocurrency is not yet ready to be used as a replacement for money. He’s made his point: There is undoubtedly a lot of interest in cryptocurrencies, both in Norway and internationally. But so far it is not suitable as a means of payment. Bitcoin News recently reported that several Norwegian billionaires have entered the crypto space. These include Ole Andreas Halvorsen, Øystein Stray Spetallen and Kjell Inge Røkke.
